*** UN PROJECT TO IMPROVE EARLY WARNING SYSTEMS COMPLETED. The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) reported on 7 August the completion of a US$6.5m project to better prepare members of the Caribbean Community (Caricom) for hurricanes and other hazards. The project, called Strengthening Hydro-Meteorological and Early Warning Systems in the Caribbean (CREWS Caribbean), was intended to address gaps in the region’s early warning systems that were shown up during the devastating 2017 hurricane season.
