MEXICO: Anti-migrant river barrier sparks backlash

Criticism has been mounting on both sides of the border to the installation of an anti-migrant river barrier in the Rio Grande. The floating barrier, which is made from buoys and barbed wire, was installed by the Texas state government and is designed to prevent migrants from crossing from Mexico into the US along a 300m stretch of river near the city of Eagle Pass, Texas. The discovery of a dead body entangled in the barrier on 2 August has heightened criticism of the measure and will pile pressure on the governments of the US and Mexico to do more to ensure it is removed.
