Paraguay’s anti-drugs agency (Senad) and Brazil’s federal police (PF) have long collaborated in their efforts to combat the activities of drug trafficking organisations (DTOs) operating near the countries’ border regions. However, dismantling the transnational criminal networks of drug producers, traffickers and money laundering systems remains a daunting task for the authorities’ joint operations, such as Operation ‘Pavo Real’, which has targeted the networks in Paraguay of the Brazilian drug trafficker Jarvis Chimenes Pavão.
