MEXICO: MC going it alone

Mexico’s leftist opposition-aligned Movimiento Ciudadano (MC) will field its own candidate in the 2024 presidential elections and will not compete as an alliance, the MC’s leader Dante Delgado has confirmed. Delgado has repeatedly rejected calls to enter an alliance with the centrist opposition Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI), right-wing Partido Acción Nacional (PAN), and left-wing Partido de la Revolución Democrática (PRD). On 29 August, he released a statement detailing 10 reasons why. This comes after pressure has risen on the MC to join the opposition Frente Amplio por México (FAM) coalition following the rise of the FAM’s potential 2024 candidate Xóchitl Gálvez and defection of a prominent MC politician.
