BRAZIL: Lula announces plans for new cabinet ministry

When Brazils President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva took office at the start of January, he signed a decree which reformed the structure of the cabinet. His predecessor Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2023) had 23 cabinet ministers, while Lula expanded the cabinet to 37 ministers. But on 29 August Lula announced a plan to create a 38th cabinet post, a ministry for small and medium-sized businesses, widely considered to be a move to accommodate two new cabinet ministers affiliated with conservative parties, which have reportedly promised to give Lula more support in congress in return for seats in his cabinet.
