* Brazil’s environment ministry has announced a donation of R$110m (US$22.67m) from the Danish government to the Amazon Fund, Brazil’s financing mechanism for rainforest conservation initiatives. The announcement was made in a joint declaration in Brasília by Denmark’s minister of development cooperation & global climate policy, Dan Jørgensen, and Brazil’s environment minister, Marina Silva. According to a press release from Silva’s ministry, the Amazon Fund has received over R$3.4bn in donations since January, with international donors including the governments of Germany, Switzerland, the US and the UK. In addition to the Amazon Fund, Silva and Jørgensen discussed preparations for the United Nations climate change conference (COP28), which will take place from 30 November to 12 December in the United Arab Emirates, as well as other multilateral forums where climate diplomacy and financing initiatives are likely to be on the agenda, such as the G20 leaders’ summit in India from 9-10 September.
