BRAZIL: Indigenous peoples’ ministry slams bill to limit demarcations

On 23 August Brazil’s ministry of indigenous peoples (MPI) released a statement advising the senate to reject the ‘Marco Temporal’ bill, which would require indigenous communities applying for protected demarcated status to prove they had occupied their lands before Brazil’s 1988 constitution was promulgated.
