ECUADOR: Gov’t says it will not comply with oil and mining referendums

On 23 August Ecuador’s Energy Minister Fernando Santos Alvite said that President Guillermo Lasso’s government will not respect the result of the 20 August referendum in which voters backed outlawing oil production in the Yasuní national park, and would only partially respect voters’ decision to ban mining in the Chocó Andino cloud forest.
