In brief: Mexico’s industrial production slows in monthly terms

* Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has published new data for its monthly index of industrial activity (Imai), showing that industrial production increased by 0.6% in June 2023. This is down from a monthly increase of 1% in May but is up from 0.4% in April. Activity in construction was up by 2.2% in monthly terms in June, while utilities (electricity generation and transmission, provision of water and gas) increased by 0.9%, and manufacturing industries saw a 0.2% rise. Mining remained stable. In seasonally adjusted annual terms, industrial production rose by 3.6% in June 2023 compared to 2022 with construction up by 11.9%, utilities by 3.7%, mining by 2.6%, and manufacturing industries by 0.7%.
