PARAGUAY | Tourism industry on recovery track. On 23 July, Paraguay’s tourism ministry (Senatur) released new figures which show that international tourism to the country increased by 102% in the first half of 2023 as compared to the same period of 2022. According to Senatur, 416,576 international tourists visited Paraguay in the first six months of the year, compared to 205,898 in the same months of 2022. January 2023 was a particularly successful month, with 105,609 tourists visiting. Visitors from neighbouring Argentina made up 77.72% of tourists (323,781) in Paraguay in the first half of 2023, followed by visitors from fellow bordering country Brazil (35,220), the US (8,032), and Germany (5,280). Senatur stated that these results confirmed the upwards trend recorded in 2022, “consolidating the recovery of Paraguay’s tourism sector” following the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic and representing “a great opportunity” for the country both culturally and economically.
