VENEZUELA: The end of free diesel

Venezuela has the world’s largest proven oil reserves but constantly has a shortage of fuel at gas stations and money in government coffers. As a result, the government of President Nicolás Maduro has put an end to free diesel for large clients in industry and agriculture. These so-called ‘special clients’ will now pay US$0.32 per litre. The health sector, including hospitals and ambulances, will continue to receive free diesel.
