In brief: Annual inflation up in Venezuela, says think tank

* The Observatorio Venezolano de Finanzas (OVF), an independent Venezuelan economic think tank, has estimated that monthly inflation in July was 7.2%, bringing annual inflation to 439%. Compared with the OVF’s June estimates, monthly inflation was down from 8.5% but annual inflation was up from 429%. The OVF noted that inflation is “closely related” to the weakening of the bolívar against the US dollar, and highlighted monthly price increases for communications (+32.2%), education (+10.4%), restaurants and hotels (+8.8%), and healthcare (+7.9%).
