COLOMBIA: Petro’s son arrested
Colombian politics took the shape of one of the country’s beloved telenovela soap operas on 29 July when President Gustavo Petro’s son Nicolás was arrested and charged with money laundering and illicit enrichment. The charges stem from allegations made by Nicolás’s ex-wife, who claimed that he received illegal donations to his father’s 2022 election campaign from murky sources, including from a convicted drug trafficker.
