Uruguay’s water emergency may be over, but situation remains critical

“We cannot claim victory yet”. This was the response of Uruguay’s President Luis Alberto Lacalle Pou when asked by journalists if recent rains meant that the country had overcome the crisis produced by extended drought conditions. Even if there is more rainfall and the weather returns to normal, serious questions regarding Uruguay’s water security remain to be addressed by the government.
