GUATEMALA | New economy minister appointed. Guatemala’s President Alejandro Giammattei has appointed a new economy minister, Luz Marina Pérez Contreras, after the resignation of Janio Rosales Alegría from the position this week. Pérez, a 43-year-old economist with experience in public service, had been serving as a deputy economy minister since September 2022. As administration and finance deputy minister, she directed and coordinated financial and human resources for the ministry’s various bodies and projects. She is the third person to hold the position of economy minister in the Giammattei government after Antonio Malouf (2020-2022) and Rosales Alegría (2022-2023).
