PANAMA: Martinelli convicted for money laundering
On 18 July a Panamanian judge sentenced former president Ricardo Martinelli (Cambio Democrático, 2009-2014) to ten years and six months and fined him US$19m in relation to the so-called ‘New Business’ case, involving alleged money laundering linked to the 2010 acquisition of a media conglomerate, Editor Panamá América (Epasa).
