BRAZIL: Lula’s commitment to Amazon protection
Brazil’s left-of-centre government led by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva boasted on 6 July that deforestation in the Amazon biome has decreased significantly from last year. Since taking office in January, Lula has staked his international reputation on his commitments to environmental protection and will continue to promote his administration’s green credentials ahead of a summit of Amazonian nations in August.
