*Uruguay’s ministry of livestock, agriculture, and fisheries (MGAP) and the Latin American development bank (CAF) have signed an agreement confirming the CAF will provide US$250,000 in funds for construction works aimed at addressing limited water access resulting from the
prolonged drought afflicting the country. The MGAP will provide a further US$74,000.
Fernando Mattos, who heads up the ministry, said the agreement will provide a “
structural and definitive solution for the vulnerable rural population”. It will benefit 109 families in affected areas in five departments as well as provide support for community, education, and health centres in the countryside.
