In brief: Bolivia steps up lithium exploration

* Bolivia’s deputy minister for energy resources, Raúl Mayta, has announced that the state-owned lithium company, Yacimientos de Litio Bolivianos (YLB), will drill 63 exploratory wells between 2023 and 2025 in the Pastos Grandes, Cañapa, Capina, Chiguana, and Empexa salt flats. Mayta said that “it’s necessary to know the quantity of the resources in our salt flats,” and that once the next round of exploratory drilling is completed YLB will research the capacities of Bolivia’s 32 other salt flats.
