In brief: Ecuador inks contract for country’s biggest wind farm

 * Ecuador’s government led by President Guillermo Lasso has announced the signing of a contract with a Spanish consortium led by infrastructure group Cobra, for the design, construction and installation of the 100 megawatt (MW) Villonaco III wind farm in Loja municipality, Loja province, with a US$181m investment. Lasso tweeted that when Villonaco III, which will span 800 hectares (ha), begins operations in 2025, it will be the biggest wind farm in the country, reducing CO2 emissions by 321,000 tonnes per year, which he described as an important step towards sustainable green energy. The government said that the project will generate 431 direct jobs and 496 indirect jobs.
