*Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has celebrated the strength of the peso against the US dollar, after a value of M$16.99 to the US dollar was registered on 5 July. According to Mexico’s central bank (Banxico), the exchange rate closed the day at M$17 to the US dollar, the peso’s best rate since December 2015. “This has not happened in decades,” noted President López Obrador in a daily morning press conference, adding that, “I am very happy.” The president also stated that since he took office in December 2018, the peso has appreciated by 13.2%.
