BRAZIL/REGION: Brazil assumes Mercosur presidency
On 4 July Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva attended the leaders’ summit of the Southern Common Market (Mercosur) in the Argentine border city of Puerto Iguazú, where Argentina’s President Alberto Fernández handed the bloc’s six-month pro tempore presidency to Brazil.
