* Paraguay’s central bank (BCP) has released new figures which show that GDP growth in the first quarter of 2023 was 5.2% year-on-year. This compares to a contraction of 0.9% in the same period of 2022 and growth of 1.7% in the fourth quarter of 2022. The BCP attributed the growth to good performances in agriculture (+53.8% year-on-year), electricity and water (+22.9%), services (1.8%) and cattle ranching (4.8%). However, it noted the economic uptick was held back by contractions in construction (-12.4%) and manufacturing (-2.0%).
