Mexico has a new interior minister – the third since President Andrés Manuel López Obrador took office in December 2018. There had been questions around who would take on the role after Adán Augusto López stepped down to participate in the race to become the 2024 presidential candidate for the ruling left-wing Movimiento Regeneración Nacional (Morena) [WR-23-24]. On 19 June, López Obrador announced that Luisa María Alcalde Luján, who had been serving as labour minister, would take on the role.
