Chile’s President Gabriel Boric led the launch of a new presidential commission for peace and understanding on 21 June, the national day of indigenous peoples, to help try and resolve the intractable Mapuche conflict in the south of the country. The new body will evaluate Mapuche claims to ancestral land and engage in extensive dialogue with local communities and local government.
