* Peru’s ministry of foreign trade and tourism has announced that 844,331 international tourists visited Peru between January and May this year, representing an increase of 60.2% on the same period in 2022. Chile was the main source country, accounting for 25.5% of international arrivals, followed by the US (19.2%), Ecuador (9.9%), Colombia (6.1%), and Argentina (4.6%). In May, international tourism was up 20.6% year-on-year, with 181,440 arrivals. However, this was 49.6% lower than the number which arrived in May 2019, prior to the onset of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
