In brief: Mexico’s industrial production edges up

* Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has published new data for its monthly index of industrial activity (Imai), showing that industrial production was up 0.4% in monthly terms in April. Activity in manufacturing was up 2.1%, while mining was up 0.3%. Construction was down 2.0%, as was utilities (electricity generation and transmission, provision of water and gas). The monthly figure for April follows a drop in industrial production in March. In seasonally adjusted annual terms, industrial production rose by 0.7% in April 2023 compared with April 2022, with mining up 1.9%, manufacturing by 1.4%, and utilities by 0.6% while construction was down 2.0%.
