PANAMA: Martinelli presidential bid confirmed as sentence looms
Former president Ricardo Martinelli (Cambio Democrático, 2009-2014) has been confirmed as the May 2024 presidential candidate by his latest political outfit Realizando Metas (RM) following primaries held on 4 June. The current frontrunner ahead of the vote, Martinelli’s biggest challenge in securing the top job is likely to come not from his rivals but the courts, with a judge due to sentence him over a money laundering case.
