* Brazil’s central bank (BCB) has released the figures for the country’s balance of payments for March, which showed a current account surplus of US$286m, in contrast to the deficit of US$3bn registered in March 2022 and to the deficit of US$2.8bn in February 2023. Brazil’s current account deficit in the 12 months to March 2023 was at US$52.3bn (2.66% of GDP), down from the US$54.4bn (2.78% of GDP) registered in the 12 months to February. Foreign direct investment (FDI) in March also increased, in both monthly and yearly terms, registering US$7.7bn, up from US$6.5bn in February and from US$6.9bn in March last year.
