*Mexico’s President
Andrés Manuel López Obrador has announced that his government had sold the presidential plan to the government of Tajikistan. He said that the M$1.66bn (US$92.2m) from the sale would be transferred to the Instituto para Devolverle al Pueblo lo Robado (Indep), the government agency set up in 2019 with the remit of
“returning stolen money to the people”, and invested in two hospitals – one in Tlapa de Comonfort municipality, Guerrero state and the other in Tuxtepec municipality, Oaxaca state. He said that military engineers would build the hospitals, which would be inaugurated before the end of his term in December 2024. Selling the presidential plane, which was bought by the previous administration of former president
Felipe Calderón (2006-2012), was a campaign promise of López Obrador, who does not use the plane which he says epitomises the ostentatiousness and corruption of his predecessors. However, he had struggled to find a buyer for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
