* Uruguay’s foreign minister, Francisco Bustillo, has held a meeting with high-ranking Chinese officials in Beijing. In the context of the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Uruguay, Bustillo spoke with China’s vice president, Han Zheng, and foreign minister, Qin Gang, about ways to deepen economic ties between the two countries. Bustillo also signed a memorandum of understanding with China’s deputy trade minister, Wang Shouwen, which set out plans to create a working group for investment and economic cooperation. According to a statement from Uruguay’s foreign ministry, Shouwen expressed China’s interest in expanding the trade relationship between the two countries, including increased imports of Uruguayan products as well as broader cooperation with regard to investment, science and technology, education, culture, and sport.
