* Nicaragua’s central bank (BCN) has released figures showing that the country’s foreign debt (public and private) reached US$14.90bn in 2022, representing an increase of 2.0% (US$296.8m) on 2021. Of the total, 54.5% (US$8.12bn) corresponded to the public sector and 45.5% (US$6.78bn) corresponded to the private sector. The BCN stated that of the total foreign debt, 43.5% is owed to multilateral creditors and 33.9% is owed to bilateral creditors, with the remainder owed to commercial banks and other credit sources.
