Brazil: On 2 March, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Brazil’s Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira met in New Delhi, India, on the margins of a G20 ministerial gathering. The meeting in India was held three weeks after Blinken and Vieira met in Washington, during a visit by Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to the White House to meet US President Joe Biden. According to a US State Department press release, Blinken and Vieira welcomed the opportunity to meet up in India not only to follow up on the former meeting in Washington, but also to focus bilateral discussions on the G20 agenda. Blinked tweeted that he and Vieira discussed “Brazil’s 2024 G20 presidency” and the two countries “working together now to promote increased trade and investment and protect our climate”. Blinken highlighted the responsibility of US and Brazilian leading economies to be making a difference, “whether it’s food security, energy security, dealing with climate change, et cetera.” Blinken also took the opportunity to thank Vieira for Brazil’s support on the 23 February Ukraine resolution at the United Nations General Assembly, and to reaffirm US commitment to “increase mutually beneficial, transparent bilateral trade and investment with Brazil.”
