In brief: Mexico to boost agri-food trade with China
* Mexico’s agriculture ministry (Sader) has announced an agreement to boost agri-food trade with China. Mexico’s agriculture minister, Víctor Villalobos Arámbula, met with China’s new ambassador to Mexico Zhang Run to discuss ways to strengthen technical-scientific cooperation in agriculture and aquaculture, with the participation of research centres from both countries, and to streamline sanitary protocols in order to expand agri-food trade. Sader noted that the signing of sanitary and phytosanitary protocols has opened the Chinese market to Mexican products such as avocados, grapes, pork, tequila, berries, frozen beef, tobacco leaf, bananas, and sorghum. According to Sader, products that China exported to Mexico last year include fish and seafood, dried chillies, vegetable seeds, confectionery products, wafers, and malt.
