*Argentina’s economy ministry has announced that the country posted a primary fiscal deficit of Ar$203.9bn (US$1.05bn) in January 2023. This is a significant increase on the deficit of Ar$16.7bn recorded in January 2022. However, the deficit is down on the Ar$502.1bn registered in December 2022. The economy ministry noted that performance was affected by
“severe drought which had a major impact on the yield of the main exportable products”. Prolonged drought
continues to wreak havoc on Argentina’s agricultural sector in recent months.
