BRAZIL | Campos Neto sounds conciliatory note. Brazil’s central bank president Roberto Campos Neto sought to downplay differences with the government led by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in a long interview with the ‘Roda Viva’ programme of TV Cultura on 13 February. “The central bank needs to work together with government, and I will do everything in my power to bring the central bank closer to government,” he said in response to a question related to criticism levelled at the bank by Lula days earlier that “there is no reason for the interest rate to be at 13.75%” to contain inflation, which is currently running at 5.77%.
