* Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has released new figures which show that the country’s exports totalled US$6.12bn in December 2022, down 7.1% year-on-year. Imports were also down compared to December 2021, totalling US$5.02bn (-19.3%), leaving a trade surplus of US$1.1bn. In the whole of 2022, exports totalled US$88.45bn (+13.5% year-on-year), while imports totalled US$81.52bn (+29%). This left a trade surplus of US$6.92bn in 2022, down over 50% on the US$14.75bn surplus recorded in 2021. Brazil was the main export destination, accounting for US$12.67bn or 14.3% of exports, followed by China (US$8.02bn or 9.1%) and the US (US$6.68bn or 7.5%). These three countries were also the main importers, with China accounting for US$17.52bn or 21.5% of imports, Brazil for US$16.03bn or 19.7% and the US for US$10.33bn or 12.7%.
