One assessment is that Petro pulled off a remarkable feat during the 2022 elections. Coming from the left, he was able to present himself as a pragmatist and consensus builder, someone who could deliver centrist policies better than the centrist parties themselves. The process of building a new consensus began during the campaign itself, was developed during the political transition as a Great National Agreement (Gran Acuerdo Nacional – GAN), and took more concrete shape with the appointment of the first ministerial cabinet.
