Around 1,000 peasant farmers from Bolivia’s eastern department of Santa Cruz arrived in La Paz on 1 August, concluding a 900km march intended to pressure President Luis Arce to meet them and discuss their demands for land titles and infrastructure improvements. The march was organised by the Santa Cruz branch of the peasants’ union Confederación Sindical Única de Trabajadores Campesinos de Bolivia (CSUTCB) – a key ally of the ruling left-wing Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS) in the opposition stronghold of Santa Cruz.
