Unemployment approaches pre-pandemic levels. On 31 May Colombia’s national statistics department (Dane) released the latest employment figures, which showed unemployment falling to levels not seen since the onset of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Unemployment in April stood at 11.2% (2.8m people), down 4.3 percentage points year-on-year. Dane’s director, Juan Daniel Oviedo, noted that the number of unemployed was at its lowest since February 2020, one month before the pandemic struck, when 2.7m people were out of work.
