*Mexico’s economy ministry (SE) has accepted
a request from the office of the US Trade Representative to review whether workers at a Panasonic auto parts plant in Reynosa city, Tamaulipas state, are being denied the rights of free association and collective bargaining. The SE said it would work with the labour and social welfare ministry to review the case and reiterated its commitment to applying by the provisions established in the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) on regional trade. This is the third time that the US has requested that Mexico review issues related to freedom of association and collective bargaining rights under USMCA’s Rapid Response Labour Mechanism (RRLM). The other two requests were made on behalf of workers at a plant operated by
US automobile manufacturer General Motors (GM) in Mexico’s Silao municipality, Guanajuato state, and
a Tridonex automotive parts factory in Matamoros city, Tamaulipas state.
