Carlos Alvarado has unveiled a national strategic plan (PEN) to attain sustainable development by 2050. According to the ministry of national planning and economic policy (Mideplan), the plan, which was drafted with the help of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), contains 109 key interventions, with investments in infrastructure projects, public policy initiatives and programmes. It also establishes development priorities for each of the regions. The plan is organised around five strategic thematic components: social inclusion; human capital & innovation; infrastructure & connectivity; economic development; and decarbonisation and will be implemented in part with funds from the European Union, which will be focussed on coastal and border areas.
