* Brazil’s President
Jair Bolsonaro has issued a decree which updates legislation surrounding remote working,
“so as to increase judicial security [for remote workers]”, according to the government. The decree notably allows employers to offer a hybrid working model to employees, and permits the contracting of remote workers on a per-day or per-project basis. The decree stipulates that parents with young children or workers with a disability be given priority for remote or hybrid working opportunities. It also establishes that remote workers cannot be paid less than in-person workers, and that a remote worker can request reimbursement for work-related costs, such as the purchase of office equipment or their electricity bill. The government estimates that some 8m people switched to remote working during the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic in Brazil.
