In brief: Mexico and Argentina pledge to boost trade
*Mexico’s economy ministry (SE) has announced additions to the economic agreement it holds with Argentina. The two countries agreed to maintain preferential treatment for the trade of vehicles via a scheme of annual quotas and established a temporary preferential quota for the importation of black beans from Argentina to Mexico. The meeting was led by Mexico’s deputy minister for foreign trade, Luz María de la Mora, and Argentina’s secretary for international economic relations Cecilia Todesca. Both officials reaffirmed commitments to increasing the levels of trade and investment between the two countries. According to the SE, Argentina is Mexico's sixth largest trading partner in Latin America and ranks eleventh as a source of foreign direct investment (FDI) globally for Mexico. In 2021, trade between Mexico and Argentina totalled US$1.86bn.
