Honduras: On 25 February US International Trade Administration Under Secretary
Marisa Lago met with Honduras’s new Foreign Minister
Eduardo Enrique Reina in Honduras to discuss bilateral trade relations and the strengthening of trade partnerships. On the same day Reina also met US Deputy Secretary of State
Wendy Sherman who tweeted that the two met to “
advance our excellent cooperation with the new [Xiomara] Castro administration” which took office at the end of January. Sherman adds that “
by partnering to improve rule of law and drive inclusive growth the people of the US and Honduras can build back better”. These are the latest in a string of visits by US officials to Honduras. On 24 February Reina met US Secretary of Homeland Security
Alejandro Mayorkas, who tweeted that two discussed “
cooperation on addressing root causes of migration, promoting legal migration and enhancing security” while the new government also
recently hosted the commander of the US Southern Command (Southcom),
Laura Richardson.
