“There is no historical justification possible to relativise the gravity of this matter…Our country is a democracy and all of the political parties within it are committed democrats…Unfortunately every now and then some people come out thinking that Cuba and Venezuela are democracies, which naturally leads to the notable conceptual contradiction of thinking that an autocracy in the tsarist mold can somehow resemble the left. It is incredible what the satrapies in Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela that so harm Latin America are saying.”
