In brief: Venezuela and Iran agree to increase hydrocarbon exchange

* Venezuela’s foreign minister, Félix Plasencia, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Iran’s oil minister, Javad Owji, which outlines plans to increase the hydrocarbon exchange between both countries as part of a broader strengthening of bilateral cooperation. Plasencia and Owji’s meeting took place in Qatar on the sidelines of the sixth summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF). Following the signing of the MoU, Plasencia tweeted that “we agreed to intensify our efforts in all areas to continue countering the illegal and arbitrary coercive unilateral measures imposed by the US against our peoples. Iran and Venezuela are advancing in the consolidation of our strategic partnership.”
