*Thousands of Haitian garment workers have taken to the streets in Haiti’s capital Port-au-Prince calling for higher wages. The protests follow similar demonstrations held in recent days. Dominique St Eloi, the coordinator of a local union, Centrale nationale des ouvrières et ouvriers haïtiens (CNOHA), told reporters that workers are seeking a raise that would take their daily wage to HTG1,500 (US$14.6) up from the current HTG500. This is in response to rocketing inflation. According to the most recent monetary policy report by Haiti’s central bank (BCH), released last month, annual inflation was running at 24.60% in November 2021 up from 13.1% in September 2021.
