Government hails job creation. Brazil’s labour ministry published the latest figures from the national employment registry (Novo Caged) on 31 January, which show that over 2.7m jobs were created in Brazil’s formal sector last year. This is a “positive and historic” number, according to the government. Labour Minister Onyx Lorenzoni highlighted the programmes implemented by the government to protect jobs during the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic as well as efforts to improve Brazil’s business environment as underpinning the positive job creation in the formal sector.
