MEXICO | New Banxico chief takes over. Victoria Rodríguez Ceja, a finance ministry official, assumed the position of governor of the central bank Banco de México (Banxico) on 1 January. Her appointment last November [WR-21-47] caught financial markets and investors off guard as they had expected President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to give former finance minister Arturo Herrera the nod. Their concern is that Rodríguez Ceja will be less likely to stand up to efforts by López Obrador to erode the autonomy of Banxico.
